Got posted to the Night Safari. Don't think I get to work night shift though ):
Got Suman as my keeper for the day (though Ade sort of took over after lunch. And he's more fun:D). She's fine. Just can't stand the fact that she smokes (like 2 cigarettes during a span of, what, 20min?). It's going to increase my chance (and hers too) of getting lung cancer.
And I'm quite shocked that more than half the keepers at the Night Safari smokes.
Anyway, did a loooooooooooooooot of washing today. I bet I washed the same baisin at least 5 times today.
And I personally feel I've been very brave today.
I touched a million slimy (dead) fishes (I'm terrified of fishes, dead and alive. Unless they're cooked. Heehee(: I sound evil) and even more mealworms.
The fishies:
I had to sort out the fishes and I was trying to hold them all by their tails cause I really don't want to touch their heads (and their eyeballs). There were no gloves cause I couldn't find them. So halfway through, Suman gave me a plastic bag to use as a glove. The plastic bag was used to store a dead, frozen, and bloody chicken before that. How helpful.
The mealies:
I tried not to look at them squirming and imagined them as spaghetti (really, really short spaghetti). And when I had to wash them in this bowl of water (they look utterly disgusting, squirming in the water), I tried to imagine myself as cooking spaghetti. Kind of helped.
I wish I was Bindi the Jungle Girl. I wouldn't be scared of fishies or mealies.
On the bright side, I got to see 3 binturongs, a fishing cat, a family of otters, many many i-forgot-the-name, 2 crocs, 2 lesser mousedeers, 1 greater mousedeer, a muntjac (barking deer), two birds that go 'honk', and a pelican.
And I got to carry a hedgehog (they're prettyyyy:D) and a pangolin too (they're pretty too:D).
And the pangolins aren't even on display yet.
Yay me.
The pangolin's food is disgusting though. It's blended mealworms, boiled eggs, meat, salmon oil, and some other stuff. Yucks. And Ade had to taste it when the zoo first came up with that concoction. Ewww.
The Singapore Zoo is the first zoo to successfully keep pangolins in captivity.
Can't wait for tomorrow (:
